Design

Site design is derived from Yoko, a WordPress theme by Elmastudio. Extensive customization performed by Andrew Marconi.

Typography

This Web site makes use of the Droid Sans font, a “humanist sans serif typefaces designed by Steve Matteson, Type Director of Ascender Corp. Droid Sans was designed with an upright stress, open forms and a neutral, yet friendly appearance. Droid Sans was optimized for user interfaces and to be comfortable for reading on a mobile handset in menus, web browser and other screen text.” It also makes use of Droid Serif, “a contemporary serif typeface family designed for comfortable reading on screen. Droid Serif is slightly condensed to maximize the amount of text displayed on small screens. Vertical stress, sturdy serifs and open forms contribute to the readability.”

They are implemented via the Google Fonts service. For browsers that do not support the font-family property (extremely rare these days), the site degrades to Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, and Arial (for sans-serifed fonts) and Georgia, then Times New Roman (for serifed-fonts).

Photography/Imagery

All photography was created by Andrew Marconi, unless otherwise noted.

Technology

The site renders using HTML5 and CSS3 with additional JavaScript functionality. It makes extensive use of the jQuery library. It is built using WordPress on the PHP framework, and runs on the Apache2 Web server.
