"The Other What" Podcast

Project Context and Mission

"The Other What" is a media property focused on storytelling for a specific, progressive audience. The podcast brings together two Atlanta-based queer women of color, Sharon Goh & Désirée Jamerson, to navigate complex intersectional themes. The discussions center on mid-life experiences, divorce, lesbian identity, community building, and living as multiple "others" in a heteronormative world.

The podcast aligns with the mission of Five59 Labs, which is dedicated to telling humanizing stories that drive positive change. The goal was to leverage media production expertise to create content that is highly impactful, compelling, and emotionally engaging.

Methodology and Production

As the director and producer of the podcast, I utilize expertise in Creative Direction, Media Production, and Creative Content Production. The content focuses on fostering positive societal and environmental outcomes by using media and technology as tools for good. Production involved applying post-production skills using tools such as Davinci Resolve and Adobe After Effects.

Results and Reach

The successful production and launch established "The Other What" across a wide range of listening platforms:

• The podcast is currently available on major streaming services including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Pandora, Amazon Music, and Audible.
• The property includes a monetization and community support channel through a merchandise store, where purchases directly back the show.
